How to find a specific moment in a video without scrubbing

Stop dragging the playhead. Here is how to find any moment in a long video, or across a whole library, by describing what you remember.

Why scrubbing doesn’t scale

Scrubbing works for a five-minute clip. It falls apart with an hour of interview content, a day of b-roll, or a channel’s worth of uploads. You remember what the moment looked like, not where it sits on the timeline, and file names like IMG_4821.MOV don’t help.

Filenames, folders and manual tags only find what someone thought to write down beforehand. Searching the content itself is what lets you find the moment you didn’t know you’d need.

Find a moment by describing it

  1. Sign in to FrameSeek at app.frameseek.in with your Google account.
  2. Import your videos (MP4, MOV or WebM, up to 500 MB each). You can add several at once.
  3. Wait for processing. FrameSeek samples frames, indexes them for search, groups them into shots and transcribes the audio. A progress bar shows how far along each video is.
  4. Open Search (or press ⌘K / Ctrl K) and describe the moment: a scene, an object, a colour, a mood or an action.
  5. Pick a result. The video opens at the matching frame, with the surrounding shot ready to clip.

Write queries that match how the moment looks

Visual search matches what is on screen, so describe the picture rather than the story. “Golden hour light on a beach” works better than “the bit after we arrived”.

  • Name the subject and the setting: “a dog running on grass”.
  • Add light or colour when it’s distinctive: “neon signs at night”, “warm sunset”.
  • Describe actions: “someone pouring coffee”, “hands typing on a laptop”.
  • Keep it short. A few concrete words beat a long sentence.

When the moment is something someone said

If you remember a line of dialogue rather than an image, open the video and switch to the Transcript tab. Find the word or phrase, then click the line to jump straight there. Inside a single video you can also run a visual search scoped to just that video.

Turn the moment into a clip

Once you’re there, choose the shot or set in and out points, preview it, and export an MP4 of up to two minutes. The clip is saved with the video so you can download it again later.
